
A hallmark of Bharatanatyam is its spiritual and narrative focus, frequently drawing on stories, symbolism, and devotional poetry —where hand gestures (mudras), facial expression, and body geometry work together to “speak” the story. Bharatanatyam is a premier Indian classical dance tradition from Tamil Nadu, celebrated for its precision, sculptural lines, rhythmic footwork, and graceful expressiveness. Its aesthetic and theatrical principles draw from ancient Indian performance theory, including the Natya Shastra. The 3 core elements being Nritta–Nritya–Natya.
